5 active tips for the New Year for better dental health

5 aktive Tipps zum Jahreswechsel für mehr Zahngesundheit

The turn of the year is fast approaching, but this year everything is different. Celebrations will be held in a small circle. In many families, the end of the year is more contemplative, relaxed, and family-oriented – a good time to pause and reflect on your personal resolutions for the coming year. While health issues have always been present in recent years, they have rarely been addressed in detail.

If you ask people about their New Year's resolutions, they often say: live healthier. The focus is usually on more exercise and sports in combination with a healthy diet. How about going into detail this year – and consciously dedicating yourself to your dental health in the coming year?

In this blog post, we explain why healthy teeth are a fundamental element of physical health and what resolutions you can easily implement.

Good resolutions for healthy teeth

For many people, daily dental care is completely automatic – nobody thinks about grabbing a toothbrush in the morning and evening in detail anymore. But with what quality and dedication do you devote yourself to this important area of your health?

The vast majority of adults see daily dental care more as a cosmetic ritual. However, the health aspect should be the focus. The more thoroughly and consciously you practice dental care, the lower your risk of developing tooth decay and periodontitis.

You can easily implement a more conscious approach to your dental health as a New Year's resolution with our five tips.

Tip 1: Dental health as a New Year's resolution

To strengthen your resolution for conscious dental hygiene, we recommend thinking about something pleasant while brushing your teeth. Use the time for a small mental break – think of a vacation, a beautiful experience, or a favorite song. Positive thoughts while brushing your teeth ensure relaxation and a good feeling.

Tip 2: Change brush heads regularly

For better dental health in the new year, you should regularly change the brush head of your emmi®-dent ultrasonic toothbrush. Even if the brush heads are more durable than conventional ones, bacteria can settle in the bristles over time. A regular change is therefore recommended.

Tip 3: Dental health on the go

Dental health doesn't end in the morning or evening – you should also take care of your teeth during the day. Small cleanings in between meals are ideal with dental floss. Especially the interdental spaces can be gently cleaned after breakfast or lunch.

Tip 4: Check-ups prevent diseases

If you're not doing it already: see your dentist regularly. Two check-ups a year are ideal. They don't take long, but they allow for early detection and treatment of possible dental diseases.

Tip 5: Dental health through conscious nutrition

Exercise and healthy eating are among the most common New Year's resolutions. But your teeth also benefit enormously from a low-sugar diet. Sugary foods promote the growth of harmful bacteria in the mouth. Replace sweets with healthy alternatives, eat at fixed times instead of constantly snacking, and pay attention to the consumption of acidic foods such as apples, oranges, or lemonade.
